Thanks to the co-funding from the Ajuntament de Barcelona and the Severo Ochoa Accreditation for Excellence, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is launching a call for participation in its new Art and Science programme, “Open Dialogues”. This initiative connects artists, who will be the lead applicant of the project, with IBEC researchers, fostering co-creation processes from the earliest stages of scientific projects. Open Dialogues is a collaborative project that aims to create meeting spaces that foster new forms of scientific and artistic research.

How can artists be connected with IBEC researchers?

A Hackathon organised by IBEC will connect artists and researchers. Two teams will then be selected at the end of the Hackathon to develop the artistic project.

Duration

Over a five-month period, two selected teams (each comprising one artist and one IBEC scientist) will collaborate on developing a  scientific and artistic project based on IBEC’s research in order to generate new ways of understanding, communicating and solving complex problems. Both the process and the results of this collaboration will be open to the public through a final group exhibition.

What do we offer?

The programme provides meeting spaces, production support, guidance from a cultural manager, and access to IBEC’s scientific environment.

Financial support is available for the winning artists and scientific researchers. Please consult the terms of the call.

Who can apply?

Young artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply, including specialists in visual arts, digital arts, installation art, video art, sound art, music, and performance art. Artists residing in Catalonia, of any nationality, may apply. Within this co-creation program, artists will lead the projects, taking on the role of creative drivers and coordinators of the team.

IBEC researchers interested in the arts and looking for new ways to approach their science are also welcome to apply. IBEC researchers will actively contribute to the development of the co-created pieces.
